300 WEATHERBY MAGNUM

The following data was developed in a Remington 700 rifle. It came from the factory with a 24 inch barrel, and was stocked in a synthetic stock. I glass bedded the action and free floated the barrel. A Leupold 4-12x scope was installed in Leupold mounts and rings.

We used the Federal 215 primer in Weatherby brass. All bullets were seated to an over all length of 3.600 inches. This is slightly longer than the specified maximum for this cartridge. It worked fine in this rifle. The magazine was long enough to handle this and none of the bullets touched the rifling.

We used the Nosler Reloading Manual #4 as a guide. We were unable to come anywhere near the velocities they have achieved . Apparently their test rifle had a 26 inch barrel. I would suggest that this should be the minimum length barrel for this caliber. Putting a relatively short barrel on this caliber is really self defeating.

All groups are three shots at 100 yards.
